The Indians claimed right-hander Robert Whitenack off waivers from the Chicago Cubs today and sent him to the Double-A Aeros. He was also added to the 40-man roster. Right-hander Frank Herrmann was moved to the 60-day disabled list.

The Cleveland Indians today claimed RHP ROBERT WHITENACK on waivers today from the Chicago Cubs and optioned him to Double-A Akron...Whitenack, 24, was designated for assignment on Monday and has gone 19-18 with a 4.13 ERA (142 ER/309.1 IP) in 69 games/65 starts across 4 minor league seasons since being selected by Chicago-NL in the 8th round of the 2009 June draft out of SUNY Old Westbury...After undergoing ‘Tommy John’ ligament transplant surgery in June of 2011, the Queens, NY native returned to make 15 starts/appearances for High-A Daytona last season...prior to the injury, Whitenack went 18-12 with a 3.77 ERA (108 ER/258.0 IP) over 54 games/50 starts from 2009-11...to make room for Whitenack on the Indians 40-man roster, RHP FRANK HERRMANN has been transferred to the 60-day disabled list.
