Indians dismiss pitching coach Scott Radinsky, hire Ruben Niebla
The Indians' melt down seems to have cost pitching coach Scott Radinsky his job. The Tribe announced this afternoon that they have hired Ruben Niebla as its pitching coach. Niebla had been the pitching coach at Triple-A Columbus.
Here is the team's release:
The Cleveland Indians today announced RUBEN NIEBLA has been named interim Major League Pitching Coach, replacing SCOTT RADINSKY.
Niebla is currently in his 12th season in the Indians organization, having spent the 2011 and 2012 seasons as the Pitching Coach for the Triple-A Columbus Clippers. In 2011 the Clippers captured the Triple-A Championship while posting their lowest team ERA (3.94) since 1992. The 2012 Columbus pitching staff currently owns an ERA of 3.91 (1031.1IP, 1012H, 448ER, 330BB, 887K), which is 6th lowest in the International League. Five members of the current Major League staff pitched under Niebla’s tutelage for AAA Columbus over the last two campaigns.
Niebla, 40, has been a Pitching Coach within the Indians Player Development System since 2001 and spent the 2010 season as an assistant to the Major League Coaching Staff. He played professionally for six seasons from 1995-2000 in the Expos and Dodgers organizations and pitched collegiately at Azusa Pacific. His bio can be found on page 249 of the Indians Information and Record Book and he will wear uniform #33.
