Indians Down on the Farm

Here's how the Indians minor league teams fared Monday:

Triple-A Columbus (8-4) - The host Clippers were defeated 13-5 by Toledo...RHP COREY KLUBER (0-2, 7.45 ERA) took the loss in dishing up six runs on six hits and three walks in just 4 2/3 innings. While the Mud Hens recorded 16 hits and had seven players with multi-hit games, the limited Clippers offense came from INF WES HODGES and OF CHAD HUFFMAN, each contributing two-run doubles.

Double-A Akron (6-6) - The Aeros halted a three-game losing streak with a 4-3 win over host Bowie...LHP KELVIN DE LA CRUZ (1-2, 1.80 ERA) earned his first win of the season, striking out nine batters and limiting the Baysox to two runs on six hits in five innings...LHP NICK HAGADONE worked 2 2/3 scoreless relief innings...DH MATT MCBRIDE went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run...OF JOHN DRENNEN and SS JUAN DIAZ each went hit 2-for-4 with a RBI...Closer and RHP CORY BURNS (0-0, 1.69 ERA) earned his fifth save in as many opportunities, yielding a solo home run before notching the save.

High Class-A Kinston (2-8) - The K-Tribe fell to host Wilmington 5-3 at Frawley Stadium...LHP T.J. HOUSE (0-1, 8.10 ERA) was tagged with his first loss of the season in allowing four runs on six hits and two walks in four innings...INF CHASE BURNETTE went 3-for-4 with two RBI-doubles.

Low Class-A Lake County (6-6) - The host Captains lost their series opener against Lansing 7-5 at Classic Park...LHP MIKE RAYL (2-0, 1.15 ERA) gave up his first runs of the season after pitching 11 scoreless innings spanning his first two starts. Rayl allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits over 4 2/3 innings...LHP J.D. REICHENBACH (1-1, 3.18 ERA) also gave up a trio of runs on five hits in three innings to take the loss...DH ALEX MONSALVE and INF JESUS AGUILAR each went 2-for-5 with a run scored...C ALEX LAVISKY was also 2-for-5 in addition to two RBI...OF ANTHONY GALLAS has hit safely in each of his last eight games, going 1-for-4 with two runs scored...OF JASON SMIT was named the Indians Minor League Player of the Week for the week of April 10-16, the first recipient of the newly created honor which recognizes an individual performance from within the Indians Player Development System. Over the week, Smit batted .462 (13-for-28) with eight runs scored, four doubles, two home runs and seven RBI in seven games. He also had an OPS of 1.830.
