Here's how the Tribe's minor league teams fared Monday:
Triple-A Columbus (26-12) - The visiting Clippers snapped a four-game losing streak by defeating Indianapolis 5-2...RHP COREY KLUBER (1-3, 6.94 ERA) picked up his first win of the season by tossing seven strong innings in which he limited the Indians to two runs on four hits and two walks...Columbus' offense was sparked by OF EZEQUIEL CARRERA, whose two-run home run in the top of the fifth inning put the Clippers ahead 3-1...In the seventh inning, the Clippers tacked on a pair of runs via an RBI double by INF LUIS VALBUENA (2-for-3 with three runs scored) and a RBI single by INF CORD PHELPS (two RBI singles)...Relievers and RHP's CARLTON SMITH and JOSH JUDY combined for two scoreless innings, as Judy picked up his sixth save.
Double-A Akron (18-19) - The Aeros had a scheduled day off...Closer and RHP CORY BURNS (0-2, 4.20 ERA) owns a league-leading 12 saves (most in the EL). In 15 appearances, he's walked just three batters and struck out 27 and leads the Eastern League with the highest strikeout-to-nine-innings ratio among relievers (16.20)…C CHUN CHEN leads the club with 20 RBI and has six home runs. He is batting .271…LHP NICK HAGADONE (2-1, 1.66 ERA) has allowed just four runs in 21 2/3 innings. in a span of 11 outings, he's issued seven walks and struck out 23 batters, while limiting opponents to a .182 average against. His six holds on the season lead the E.L.
High Class-A Kinston (14-22) - The K-Tribe couldn't find any kind of rhythm in their 11-0 loss to Lynchburg, especially against RHP ZEKE SPRUILL, who tossed a complete game shutout. Spruill surrendered just three Kinston hits and faced one batter over the minimum...RHP BRETT BRACH entered the game with the lowest ERA in the Carolina League, but was roughed up for eight earned runs on six hits in 4 2/3 innings...OF TYLER HOLT, INF CHASE BURNETTE and C DOUG PICKENS each collected a hit for the Indians, but Holt was the only runner to reach scoring position.
Low Class-A Lake County (17-19) - The Captains had a scheduled day off...Lake County leads the Midwest League in batting average (.264), doubles (79), total bases (507), slugging percentage (.415) and are second in runs scored (188), hits (322) and OPS (.752)…OF ANTHONY GALLAS was named the Cleveland Indians Minor League Player of the Week for the period of May 8-14. He is second in the MWL with a .356 batting average - only trailing former teammate INF TYLER CANNON, who was promoted to Kinston. Gallas is also second in hits (42), is tied for first in doubles (16) and has been on base in 17 consecutive games and has hit safely in 11 consecutive.
