Here's how the tribe's minor league teams fared Monday:
Triple-A Columbus (52-26) - The Clippers dropped their third consecutive game, 5-1, to visiting Gwinnett at Huntington Park...The Braves took control of the game after INF RUBEN GOTAY and C WILKIN CASTILLO hit two-run home runs in the top of the second inning and never looked back...Columbus' only run came on a fourth-inning solo home run by 2B JASON KIPNIS, who went 2-for-4...Despite striking out nine batters, RHP COREY KLUBER (4-5, 6.25 ERA) was tagged with the loss, having allowed four runs on six hits in seven innings...OF TIM FEDROFF, who was promoted to Columbus from Double-A Akron, went 1-for-3 in his debut...LHP JOHAN FLANDE (3-4) picked up the win for Gwinnett after limiting the Clippers to a run on four hits in 5 1/3 innings.
Double-A Akron (38-39) - The host Aeros went into the later innings of their game against Bowie facing a 5-0 deficit before rallying for a 10-9 victory...OF DONNIE WEBB hit the game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning for the walk-off win in the first game of a three-game set at Canal Park...RHP and closer CORY BURNS (2-3, 2.59 ERA) pitched a scoreless ninth inning to earn the win...Aeros starter and LHP MATT PACKER (2-8, 5.80 ERA) struck out seven Baysox batters but also struggled early in dishing up five runs on nine hits in 5 1/3 innings...The Baysox held a 9-3 cushion until the Aeros rallied for six runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to tie the game...1B/C MATT MCBRIDE, OF NICK WEGLARZ, SS JUAN DIAZ and Webb each drove in two runs a piece for Akron, which totaled 13 hits in the game. Webb and INF KYLE BELLOWS each had three hits.
High Class-A Kinston (38-31) - The K-Tribe lost 5-2 to Potomac in 11 innings...Nationals starter LHP DANIEL ROSENBAUM (4-3, 2.57 ERA) limted the K-Tribe batters to a run on three hits and three walks in six innings. RHP CLAYTON COOK (6-4, 3.18 ERA) allowed just one run on four hits and three walks in six innings for the Indians, leaving the game in a 1-1 tie...DH TYLER CANNON went 2-for-5 with a double and two RBI...The Nationals opened the 11th with a bunt single and scored three runs in the inning to top the Indians...RHP PRESTON GUILMET (0-1, 2.08 ERA), who is second in the Carolina League in saves, picked up his first loss of the season.
Low Class-A Lake County (28-41) - The Captains... Lake County gained an early lead but the bullpen was unable to contain Fort Wayne’s offense in a 10-1 loss...RHP MICHAEL GOODNIGHT (5-6, 3.09 ERA) allowed three runs (two earned) in 4 2/3 innings, picking up his third loss in as many games...It was the Lake County bullpen, however, that allowed the majority of the damage...RHP NATHAN STRIZ (0-2, 6.88 ERA) and RHP JOEY MAHALIC (0-0, 4.50 ERA) combined to allow seven runs (six earned) on six hits and seven walks in 3 2/3 innings...RHP MATT JACKSON (4-1, 2.24 ERA) picked up the win for Fort Wayne, limiting the Captains to a unearned run on three hits and four walks over six innings...OF JORDAN CASAS went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored.
Rookie-level Mahoning Valley (8-3) - The Scrappers rallied from behind and took a 2-0 series advantage with a 2-1 victory over State College...RHP JOSEPH COLON (0-1, 4.38 ERA) started for the Scrappers and allowed only an unearned over five innings...The Scrappers bullpen did not allow a run in four innings of relief and LHP KYLE PETTER (2-0, 0.00 ERA) recorded his second win of the season...Mahoning Valley C JAKE LOWERY went 2-for-3 with two walks...INF JORDAN SMITH went 2-for-3 with two walks, a run scored and a RBI and led off the eighth with a double...INF JERRUD SABOURIN hit a RBI single to tie the game at 1-1...State College RHP FRAYLIN CAMPOS (1-1, 3.18 ERA) recorded his first blown save of the season, walking in the winning run on Smith’s second walk of the night.
