Indians' Michael Brantley close to returning; Chris Perez might begin throwing Sunday
Outfielder Michael Brantley was scheduled to have the stitches removed from his left arm and participate in full workouts today.
"We'll probably let him go a couple of days when he does everything on the field,'' manager Terry Francona said this morning. "Maybe on Sunday he'll play three or four innings. That's probably pretty reasonable.''
Brantley was spiked in the arm as he slid into third base during a game against the Athletics on Feb. 25.
Closer Chris Perez will begin a throwing program as early as Sunday after suffering a strained muscle in his right shoulder. He has not pitched since Feb. 26.
