Indians' roster shrinking

By Sheldon Published: May 19, 2011

CHICAGO: Travis Hafner is still nursing aching ribs and won't start tonight's game against the White Sox, but he isn't the only unavailable Indians player.

Orlando Cabrera will not be at second base, because he is being sworn in as a United States citizen in South Carolina, his off-season home. In addition, Travis Buck was scratched from the lineup with turf toe (his left big toe), with Shelley Duncan taking his place at designated hitter.

Adam Everett will be at second, and the Tribed called up Luis Valbuena from Columbus because of the shortage of position players. To make room for Valbuena, Justin Germano was designated for assignment.

Manager Manny Acta would not hazard a guess as to when Hafner will return to the lineup.

""Hafner was better today,'' he said. ""He tested a lot better with Lonnie (head trainer Lonnie Soloff). Tomorrow we'll be home and some tests will be run on him, probably an MRI.''

Buck is expected to be ready to play Friday night against the Reds.
