Indians sign minor league infielder Hannahan

The Indians signed INF Jack Hannahan to a minor league contract with a non-roster invitation to 2011 Major League spring training camp this weekend.

The 30-year-old veteran split last season between Triple-A Tacoma (Seattle) and Triple-A Pawtucket (Boston) where he hit a combined .237 (79-for-334) with 17 doubles, nine home runs and 45 RBI in 96 games.

The left-handed hitter last appeared in the big leagues in 2009 with the Mariners and owns a four-year Major League career average of .224 with 53 doubles, 16 home runs and 90 RBI in 290 games from 2006-09 with Detroit, Oakland and Seattle.

Hannahan also owns a career fielding percentage of .969 (606 total chances, 19 errors) in 251 major league games at third base and finished third among American League third basemen in fielding % (.970) in 2008 with Oakland.

The St. Paul, Minn., and University-of-Minnesota product was originally selected in the third round of the 2001 draft by the Detroit Tigers. He owns a nine-year minor league career average of .268 (794-2968) in 846 games.
