It's official: Tribe acquires Fukudome
The Indians finalized a deal for Cubs right fielder Kosuke Fukudome today in exchange for two minor leaguers.
Fukudome, a 34-year-old left-handed batter, is hitting .273 with a .374 on-base percentage. He is in the final year of a $48 million contract, worth $13.5 million this season. Reportedly, the Cubs are paying all but $775,000 of the $4.7 million remaining on the deal.
The Tribe sent minor league outfielder Abner Abreu and minor-league pitcher Carlton Smith to the Cubs. To make room on the roster for Fukudome, Travis Buck was designated for assignment.
