Kearns reveals DUI arrest
GOODYEAR, Ariz.: Indians outfielder Austin Kearns revealed this morning that he was arrested on a DUI charge in his hometown of Lexington, Ky. on Feb. 12, a few days before coming to spring training.
An off-duty Lexington police officer made the arrest, and a March 10 court date has been set for a hearing.
Kearns held a press conference this morning but didn't talk about the details of the arrest.
""I probably can't say anything,'' he said. ""Some stuff is still in the process -- whatever the legal process is.''
Kearns said he has no other DUI arrests.
""I couldn't say I had one right now,'' he said. ""I never had any of that -- any occasion like that.''
Tribe General Manager Chris Antonetti issued a statement but refused to expand it.
""We are aware of Austin Kearns' arrest on Feb. 12 and are in the process of gathering facts and discussing the matter with him,'' the statement said. ""The Indians' organization takes these issues very seriously and is disasppointed by the circumstances. We will handle the matter internally and will not have any further comment until we have complete information about the incident and the legal process has run its course.''''
