CLEVELAND: Aaron Laffey was placed in the 15-day disabled list today, but an MRI exam Thursday did not reveal any structural damage to his left shoulder.
""He's out with shoulder fatigue,'' manager Manny Acta said of his starter. ""The MRI was good.''
Asked how long it will take for the fatigue to dissipate, Acta said, ""As long as it takes.'' In other words, nobody knows at this point whether Laffey will have to miss more than two starts.
Because of Thursday's off day, Acta was able to juggle his rotation. However, because of Laffey's absence, the Tribe will need a starter for Tuesday night's game against the Yankees.
Just as Laffey was getting on the DL, Shin-Soo Choo was coming off after being sidelined with a sprained right thumb on July 3, trying to flag down a ball in right field.
Choo will return to the third spot in the lineup with Carlos Santana moving from third to fourth. With Choo and Asdrubal Cabrera returning to the field this week, Acta can put together the top half of the batting order he counted on at the beginning of the season, with the exception of Grady Sizemore, who is out for the season after undergoing microfracture surgery on his knee.
For most games, Michael Brantley will lead off, followed by Cabrera, Choo, Santana and Travis Hafner in the fifth spot.
