ARLINGTON, Texas: After the Indians beat the Rangers 9-3 Monday night, Matt LaPorta was taken to Medical Center of Arlington hospital for a C-T exam.
LaPorta, trying to dig Jason Donald's throw out of the dirt at first base in the third inning, was struck in the back of the head by Texas shortstop Elvis Andrus, who was trying to beat out a ground ball to shortstop. Immediately after being hit by Andrus' elbow, LaPorta fell to the ground and remained in a prone position for almost a minute.
He finished the inning, but was removed for a pinch hitter in the fourth. LaPorta was responsive after the game but was taken to the hospital as a precaution, partly because he sustained a concussion playing for Team USA during the Olympic year of 2008.
