By sstorm Published: August 20, 2010

The Indians acquired minor league RHP Zach McAllister from the New York Yankees late Friday to complete the July 30th trade that sent veteran OF Austin Kearns to the Bronx for a player to be named.

The 22-year old has spent the season to date with Triple-A Scranton, going 8-10 with a 5.09 ERA in 24 starts - including a complete game. He is slated to join Triple-A Columbus.

McAllister had a five-start win streak from May 9 -June 1 with a 2.41 ERA over that span. In addition, he's fanned 25 batters in 24 1/3 August innings. McAllister currently ranks 11th in the International League in innings pitched (132 2/3).

The 6-foot-5, 230-pounder ranked by Baseball America as the 5th-best prospect and as having the “Best Control” in the Yankees organization. Last year at Double-A Trenton he went 7-5 with a 2.23 ERA in 22 starts in 121 innings, leading the Eastern League in ERA and being named the Yankees Minor League Pitcher of the Year.

McAllister was originally selected by the Yankees in the third round of the 2006 draft out of Illinois Valley Central High School. His father, Steve, is a scout for the Arizona Diamondbacks.
