MESA, Ariz.: Zach McAllister delivered his most efficient outing of the spring, as the Indians pounded the Cubs 9-2 today at HoHoKam Stadium.

David Huff started the game and gave up a two-run homer to Javier Baez in three innings, then McAllister took over and pitched through the seventh. He did not allow a run, gave up three hits but no walks and struck out three.

""I thought he looked real good,'' manager Terry Francona said. ""He pounded the strike zone and elevated pitches when he had to for swing and misses.''

Coming into the game, McAllister had yielded five runs in seven innings.

Abette3d by six walks, the Tribe offense made efficient use of 12 hits, including  the first home runs of the spring by Jason Kipnis and Cedric Hunter, who drove in three runs with his blast.

Ben Francisco doubled and Ezequiel Carrera singled twice.

""We seem to generate more enthusiasm when we have veteran guys (on the road),'' Francona said. ""It's not something I understand, but it's a good thing.''
