McBride grand slam leads Aeros to victory
AKRON AEROS 8, PORTLAND 0
KEY STATS - With the series win over Portland, the Aeros have won six of their last games and entered the day with a 3.5-game lead over second-place Reading...The Aeros battered SeaDogs starter Lawson for eight runs (all earned) on eight hits and five walks.
KEY MOMENT - RF Matt McBride got the Aeros started with a bang, slamming a grand slam in the first inning against Lawson...Aeros starter Hector Rondon and two relievers combined to shut out the SeaDogs on two hits.
STORM'S STARS - In his just second first game back since recovering from a left knee MCL strain, McBride put the host on the board in a big way with a grand slam down the left line in the first inning. He went 2-for-4 with a double and four RBI and has four extra-base hits in his last two games.
UP NEXT - The Aeros have Monday off - but have to spend it taking an 11-hour bus ride to New Hampshire (Toronto Blue Jays) where they will kick off a six-game road trip with the Fisher Cats and then Portland SeaDogs (Boston Red Sox). They return to Canal Park June 23 for a seven-game home stand.
