Mills talks about power surge
Akron Aeros first baseman Beau Mills has been able to tap into his power potential a bit lately. Entering tonight’s game against Erie, Mills is hitting .385 (5-13) on the home stand with three home runs.
Mills deposited a ball into the right field stands Sunday against Altoona. He hit two more home runs yesterday, one in the fourth inning and one in the sixth inning. The blast gave him three home runs in a span of five at bats.
"They were both fastballs,’’ Mills said of Monday’s home runs. "It felt good. It is just nice to try and get into a groove and hopefully I can keep going.’’
Mills, who set an NAIA record with 38 home runs at Lewis-Clark State College in 2007, now has 10 home runs this season. He is hitting .261. He had 21 home runs last year at Class A Kinston.
Mills is not doing much differently, he said. He is just putting a better swing on the ball.
"It has felt good all year just haven’t been able to put the right swing on the right pitches in the right count,’’ Mills said. "That is kind of how you get the groove of things; when you are able to get into hitters counts and when you do get your pitch, putting the right swing on it and making good contact."
