Minor league catcher acquired in trade

The Indians recently acquired C Luke Carlin from the Pittsburgh Pirates for a player to be named and assigned him to Triple-A Columbus.

Carlin, 29, had hit just .239 with Triple-A Indianapolis this season, including eight doubles, two home runs and 23RBI in 63 games.

Currently in his ninth professional season, Carlin has appeared in 46 Major League games with San Diego (2008) and Arizona (2009). He owns a minor league career average of .252 over 581 games after being Detroit's 10th-round selection in the 2002 draft.
