Notes for Thursday's Tribe game

By sstorm Published: April 15, 2010

* Ryan Garko, former Indians first baseman, will play first base today in his first game against the team that drafted him in the third round (78th overall) of the 2003 draft as a catcher out of Stanford. (Garko pinch-hit in Monday's opener).
After being traded to San Francisco last year, Garko bounced around. Upon completing the 2009 season with the Giants, Garko signed with Seattle in the off season and spent spring training with the Mariners before being released and becoming a late-spring acquisition with the Rangers.
"It feels good to be back, but it was tough walking down the tunnel from the parking lot," Garko said on the Indians pre-game radio show. "This was my home for a long time and I had a lot of fun playing here. It was more emotional than I thought it would be."

* With Triple-A Columbus headed on the road, Indians veteran first baseman Russell Branyan is in Cleveland today and will head to Double-A Akron to complete his rehab assignment before rejoining the Tribe - possibly next week.
"He's very close," Indians manager Manny Acta said on his pregame radio show. "He's here (in Cleveland) to get some treatment. Tomorrow he's going to Akron (to continue his rehab assignment). He hasn't had a set back, knock on wood, and we like the way his rehab is going."
