Orlando Cabrera makes debut at third

CLEVELAND: Career shortstop Orlando Cabrera became a second baseman when he signed with the Indians before the season. Now he is being asked to play third.

Cabrera is in the lineup at third tonight instead of Jack Hannahan against Colorado righty Juan Nicasio. Even though Hannahan bats from the left side, he will be on the bench. But there are other priorities.

""Orlando has been getting work over at third,'' manager Manny Acta said this afternoon. ""This gives us more flexibility. We'll see how he handles it''

Acta decided to play rookie Cord Phelps at second, but he also wanted Cabrera in the lineup. Phelps doubled and hit the first home run of his career, a walkoff, in Sunday's win over the Pirates.
