Sizemore headed to the DL
For the first time in his career Indians centerfielder Grady Sizemore will be on the Disabled List. A bothersome left elbow had restricted Sizemore to designated hitter duties over the last few weeks before pushing him to the 15-day disabled list with left elbow synovitis (inflammation) Sunday.
Taking Sizemore's place on the 25-man roster will be utility player Chris Gimenez, who is being called up from Triple A Columbus.
Designated hitter Travis Hafner has until Wednesday to finish his rehab assignment at Columbus, but left Saturday night's game with soreness in his right shoulder. Wedge expects him to play today.
Gimenez is hitting .235 (32-136) this season, but is hitting .339 (19-56) with six doubles, four home runs and eight RBI in his last 16 games. For the season, he has eight doubles, six home runs and 15 RBI in 39 games.
He is also very versatile, playing 24 games at catcher, eleven games in left field and three games at first base.
