Smith returning for weekend, Sizemore soon after
ANAHEIM, Calif.: Joe Smith should rejoin the Indians' bullpen crew for Friday night's game against the Orioles at Progressive Field.
""Smith is getting closer,'' manager Manny Acta said this afternoon. ""I anticipate that he will be activated by this weekend.''
Smith suffered a strained ab in spring training and has been on a rehab assignment at Akron, where he pitched on consecutive nights, the final test in his recovery.
Acta still won't say when Grady Sizemore (microfracture surgery on his knee) will return, but he might be only a few days behind Smith. Sizemore also has been on a rehab assignment with the Aeros, but with Akron headed for the road, he is scheduled to play for Columbus, which plays at Toledo tonight.
