Three draftees sign
Over the weekend, the Indians signed three of the players they drafted earlier in the week.
The first to sign was INF Aaron Fields, a 42nd-round selection from Wright State University. Fields helped the Raiders to a 31-25 record and the regular season Horizon League title in spring, batting .327 (55-for-168) with 10 doubles, three triples, four home runs and 37 RBI while scoring 38 runs in 49 games. He is the son of current Indians hitting coordinator and former major leaguer Bruce Fields.
A day later, the Tribe anounced the signings of ninth-rounder and RHP Jordan Cooper and 14th-rounder and C Diego Seastruck.
Cooper went 10-3 with a 2.01 ERA in 15 starts for Wichita State University and was named the Missouri Valley Conference Pitcher of the Year.
Seastruck hit .369 (66-for-179) with 17 doubles, nine home runs and 52 RBI for Rice University, being named to the Conference-USA Second Team. He wrapped up his college career ranking third all-time at Rice in hits (287), fourth in doubles (62) and fifth in RBI (200).
