Tribe adds two more potential players to 2011 mix
* The Indians signed RHP Doug Mathis to a free agent minor league contract with a non-roster invitation to Major League spring training camp. The 27-year old split the 2010 season between the Texas Rangers and Triple-A Oklahoma, going 1-1 with a 6.04 ERA in 13 Major League relief appearances.
* The Tribe acquired RHP Joe Martinez from the Pittsburgh Pirates for a player to be named or cash considerations. The 27-year old split last season between the Triple-A and Major League levels in the Pittsburgh Pirates and San Francisco Giants organizations. Martinez was San Francisco’s 12th-round selection in the 2005 draft out of Boston College.
and has appeared at the Major League level in each of the last two seasons (3-3, 6.16ERA, 18G, 6GS, 49.2IP, 34ER).
Combined at the big league level he was 0-1 w/a 4.12 ERA in 9 games/1GS (19.2IP, 26H, 9ER, 9BB, 9K). He was acquired by Pittsburgh at the trading deadline in exchange for LHP Javier Lopez and recorded an ERA of 3.12 (8.2IP, 11H, 3ER) in 5 relief appearances for the Pirates. He went a combined 6-5 w/a 3.94 ERA in 21 games/17GS (109.2IP, 124H, 48ER, 83K) at the Triple A level between Fresno (SFG) and Indianapolis (PIT).
