Tribe claims Rottino from Mets; places four on IL All-Star Team
NEW YORK: The Tribe claimed infielder/outfielder Vinny Rottino off the waiver wire from the Mets today, making room for him on the 40-man roster by designating Columbus right-hander Chris Schwinden for assignment.
Rottino, 32, has split the season between Triple-A Buffalo and New York, batting .307 with 10 doubles, four homers and 25 RBI in 36 games for the Bisons and .182 with one double and two homers in 18 games with the Mets. His career big-league average is .188 in 44 games with the Brewers, Marlins and Mets.
At least for now, Rottino is headed to the farm system, but it hasn’t been announced whether he will go to Double-A or Triple-A.
Four members of the Clippers have been picked for the International League All-Star Game scheduled for July 11 in Buffalo.
First baseman/outfielder Matt LaPorta, middle infielder Cord Phelps and first baseman/outfielder Russ Canzler have been selected as well as Columbus manager Mike Sarbaugh.
