Tribe claims Yankee outfielder on waivers
KANSAS CITY, Mo.: The Indians made a roster move today, claiming outfielder Chad Huffman off the waiver wire from the Yankees.
Huffman spent most of the season at Triple-A Scranton-Wilkes Barre, where he batted .274 with 20 doubles, 10 home runs, 45 RBI and 48 runs in 104 games. He also had a .353 on-base percentage.
He played in nine games (four starts) with New York and was 3-for-18 with two RBI. He has been optioned to Columbus, which is in the midst of a playoff series with Durham.
Huffman was named to the Pacific Coast League All-Star Team in 2009.
The 6-foot-1, 215-pound right-handed batter was the Padres' second-round pick in the 2006 draft out of TCU. In April, New York claimed on waivers from San Diego.
The Tribe has renewed its agreements with both Class A Kinston and rookie level Mahoning Valley.
Both teams will be affiliated with Cleveland through the 2012 season. Next year will mark the 25th year that Kinston has been an Indians' farm team, longest current affiliation in the Carolina League. Mahoning Valley has been a Tribe farm team since 1999.
