Tribe expected to announce trade for Fukudome

Later today, the Indians are expected to announce a trade for Cubs outfielder Kosuke Fukudome for two minor leaguers.

Fukudome, 34, is not the run producer that can bolster the middle of a lineup, but he has consistently been a hitter who gets on base. This year, he is batting .273 with 15 doubles, three home runs and 13 RBI in 293 at-bats.  He also has a .374 on-base percentqge for the season and a .369 career mark, averaging 24.5 doubles per year.

If General Manager Chris Antonetti hit the target by acquiring a player who can kick start rallies with his abilty to reach base, he missed the mark in another important area: The Indians are overloaded with left-handed batters and Fukudome hits from the left side.

Fukudome is in the last season of a four-year, $48 million contract. The Cubs apparently have agreed to pay much of the $4.7 million that is left.
