Tribe finishes Wood deal, picks up pair of minor leaguers
The Indians acquired RHP Andrew Shive and INF Matt Cusick from the New York Yankees to complete the July 31st trade that sent closer and RHP Kerry Wood to the Yankees.
Shive, a 24-year old reliever, went 1-2 with a 4.56 ERA, 20 walks and 14 strikeouts in 16 appearances between Rookie Staten Island and low Class-A Charleston of the South Atlantic League this season coming off 2009 reconstructive right elbow surgery. Shive was the Yankees' 35th-round selection in the 2008 draft out of Azusa Pacific University.
Cusick, 24, split the 2010 season between Double-A Trenton and Triple-A Scranton, where he combined to bat .243 with 13 doubles, three triples, three home runs and 35 RBI in 88 games.
He owns a four-year minor league career average of .278, having originally been acquired by New York from Houston during in 2008 season for RHP LaTroy Hawkins. Cusick was the Astros' 10th-round pick in the 2007 out of Southern Cal.
