Tribe loses 10th in row; Masterson shelled
GOODYEAR, Ariz.: Justin Masterson did not end spring training on a high note, giving up six runs and seven hits in 3 2/3 innings, as the Tribe fell to the Rangers 7-4 at Goodyear Ballpark tonight.
Ian Kinsler hit a two-run homer in the third off Masterson, and Mitch Moreland drove in two runs with a homer in the fourth. The other big hit aggainst Cleveland's No. 1 starter was a two-run double in the second by David Murphy.
Masterson will make his next start on Opening Day against the Blue Jays April 5 at Progressive Field.
Michael Brantley led off the first with his second home run of the spring and doubled in the seventh. Jason Kipnis hit his second homer of exhibition season to lead off the fourth and singled.
Jaire Asencio made his Tribe debut, pitching the seventh and eighth, giving up no runs, two hits and a walk, striking out two.
Asencio was acquired from the Braves earlier in the week and is one of two pitchers competition for the final spot in the bullpen. Jeremy Accardo is the other.
The Tribe has lost 10 games in a row and 11 of its past 12.
