Tribe makes things official
GOODYEAR, Ariz.: Right-hander Jamey Wright, who came to camp with a minor-league contract, was placed on the 40-man roster today, signifying that he has made the team officially.
In addition, right-hander Saul Rivera, catcher Chris Gimenez and infielders Niuman Romero, Brian Buscher and Luis Rodriguez were reassignexd to the minor-league camp but not assigned to specific teams.
Still to come: With the roster at 40, room will have to be made by Sunday for Austin Kearns and Mark Grudzielanek, who also came to spring training with minor-league contracts.
The Tribe's whirlwind trip to Los Angeles on Thursday netted a 6-3 win over the Dodgers, as Grady Sizemore homered and singled, and Asdrubal Cabrera had two hits and two RBI. Fausto Carmona worked six innings and gave up three runs on seven hits but no walks, throwing 82 pitches, 57 strikes.
The team took the 50-minute flight from Phoenix, landing at LAX at two in the afternoon and went directly to the Dodger Stadium. After spending little more than eight hours in Los Angeles, the team returned to Phoenix, landing about 1:30 A.M.
Apparently, the trip was a fincancial success for both teams. Attendance was 25,313, and the Indians took home an undisclosed amount of cash, which is why they agreed to make the trip.
