Tribe signs draft pick and free agents Wednesday
The Indians signed OF Jordan Casas Wednesday, their 40th round selection out of Long Beach State University in last week's draft.
The team also agreed to contract terms with the following undrafted free agents: RHP Matt Speake from Southern Arkansas University, 1B Andrew Kinney out of Southwest Minnasota State and LHP J.D. Reichenbach from Elon University.
Casas batted .291 with 27 stolen bases over his three years at Long Beach State. Speake was tied for the team lead with six complete games, going 9-1 with a 4.77 ERA and 73 strikeouts in 15 games (10 starts).
Kinney batted .349 and led SMS in home runs (17), RBI (48) and runs scored (49) in spring, finishing his career as the school leader in home runs (50), RBI (181) and total bases (390).
Reichenbach, who was a 20th-round selection by the Anaheim in the 2006 draft, was 0-1 with a 5.74 ERA in 16 games (four starts) this season.
So far, the Indians have signed nine of their 50 selections from the 2010 First Year Player Draft and four non-drafted free agents.
