Tribe signs Giambi to minor-league deal

By Sheldon Ocker Published: February 9, 2013

Late Saturday night, the Indians signed another big name, but it might be a litte late, like five years.

Forty-two-year-old Jason Giambi agreed to a minor-league contract that includes an invitation to major-league spring training camp.

In 18 seasons, Giambi amassed a total of 429 home runs and 1.405 RBI and was selected for the American League All-Star Game five times..

From seven years beginning in 1995, Giambi was a fixture in the A's lineup, but from 2002 through 2008 he flashed his power swing for the Yankees, hitting more than 30 homers in five different seasons.

His numbers began to decline in 2009, when he returned to Oakland but ended the season in Colorado. from 2010 through laxst season, Giambi played sparingly for the Rockies.

For the bulk of his career, Giambi played first base, but the Tribe probably views him  as a part time designated hitter.
