Tribe signs veteran infielder to minor-league deal
GOODYEAR, Ariz. -- Veteran middle infielder Cristian Guzman is in camp and says he is ready to sign a minor-league contract on Wednesday.
Guzman, 33, played six years for the Twins and five for the Nationals before spending 2010 with the Rangers. However, he suffered an injury to his right shoulder and underwent rotator cuff surgery, missing all of the 2011 season.
Now, he says he his ready to resume his career. In 2008, he batted .316 with 186 hits and has scored 80 or more runs four times, though not since 2004. He also batted .328 in 2007 but in only 174 at-bats.
