Two home runs propel Tribe to win over White Sox

   GOODYEAR, Ariz.: The bad news for Indians fans was that Justin Masterson, the team's Opening Day starter, gave up four runs snd six hits in 2 2/3 innings.

   The good news was the power outburst by Matt Carson and Mike McDade. Each hit a three-run homer to allow the Tribe to beat the White Sox 9-7 today at Goodyear Ballpark.

   Nobody is concerned that Masterson got lit up.

   Manager Terry Francona indicate that for every sinker that didn't sink -- and landed in the far reaches of the outfield or over the wall -- another sinker was pounded into the dirt.  

  ""When Justin got under the ball, it got whacked,'' Francona said. ""When he stayed on top of it, he got some good sinking action.''

  Carson's homer in the fourth inning was his third of the spring. He is batting .286 with six RBI in 14 at-bats. The 31-year-old outfielder has some tough competition in the race to win a job on the bench, but if he keeps hitting balls out of the park who knows what might happen. 

   McDade's blast was his first of the spring, but he is batting .500 with nine RBI in 12 at-bats.

   Scott Kazmir delivered two scoreless innings, giving up one hit and striking out three.
