Van Benschoten could face Aeros
When the Aeros (3-1) begin their three-game series against host Trenton (4-0) tonight, chances are the they could face former KSU standout pitcher John Van Benschoten.
Before the game, the Thunder (a New York Yankees affiliate) placed right-hander Christian Garcia on the disabled list and added Van Benschoten from the Gulf Coast League to the active roster.
Garcia was taken out of his Opening Day start on April 8th after suffering a torn ligament in his right elbow.
Van Benschoten was originally selected by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 1st round (8th overall) of the 2001 draft. He made his Major League debut on Aug. 18, 2004, and owns a career record of 2-13 with a 9.20 ERA in 26 games spanning three seasons with the Pirates.
