CLEVELAND: With Mitch Talbot due to come off the disabled list in the next few days, the Indians wasted no time putting Alex White on the 15-day disabled list.
Without knowing exactly what is wrong with White's right middle finger, the club made the move with and also called up Josh Judy to be an extra arm in the bullpen until Talbot is activated to start Wednesday's game against the Red Sox.
""It was pretty clear that if we had to take him out of a game after three innings, the chances of him pitching five days later weren't very good,'' manager Manny Acta said.
White sustained the injury throwing a slider in the third inning Friday night. He was scheduled to undergo an MRI scan this afternoon but no results were available.
""The last slider I threw is when it happened,'' White said after Friday night's game. ""I was OK throwing the fastball and split, but not the slider.''
Judy, 25, has been on the Tribe's radar screen for at least two years. This season at Columbus, he is 2-1 with six saves and a 4.67 earned-run average in 16 appearances. In 17 1/3 innings, he has allowed 19 hits and nine walks, but he also has struck out 20. He has yet to pitch in the major leagues.
