White Sox outduel Tribe in contest to obtain Youkilis
HOUSTON: The Indians finished behind the White Sox in the race to acquire Kevin Youkilis.
Chicago made the deal late this afternoon, sending reliever Zach Stewart (1-2, 6.00 ERA) and utility infielder Brent Lillibridge (.175, 63 AB) to the Red Sox. In addition to a wrist injury that has kept him out of the lineup much of the season, Youkilis, 33, has been mired in the worst slump of his career and carries a .233 batting average.
“”He’s going to make them a better team,’’ Acta said. “”He’s been there, done that, so it doesn’t get any easier for us.’’
The Tribe trails the first-place White Sox by 1 1/2 games in the Central Division race.
