Who's next to go? Hernandez to pitch Thursday
CLEVELAND: Who will be lopped off the roster to make room for utility player Brent Lillibridge, who joins the team on Wednesday?
The logical candidate seems to be Aaron Cunningham, because manager Manny Acta indicated that a signbifacnt part of Lillibridge's job will be as a late-inning defensive replacement in the outfield. That's what Cunningham has been doing.
Acta said the club considred bringing up Jason Donald from Columbus, who also can play the infield and the outfield, but, ""We think it's better for him to continue his development down there. And most of the action will be in the outfield (here), and he's just learning to play out there.''
Lillibridge had played every position on the field at leaet 10 times in his career except pitching and catching.
Now that Acta and pitching coach Scott Radinsky have seen Roberto Hernandez throw a bullpen, they believe he is ready to take his talents to Lake Count on Thursday.
That’s where Hernandez will make his first rehab start while he is serving a three-week suspension.
“”He will throw four or five innings, not exceeding 75 pitches,’’ Acta said. “”He threw five innings and 75 pitches back home (at the Tribe’s Dominican Republic Academy) but that was in a more relaxed environment.’’
