Wood activated; Hafner still out

TORONTO: Kerry Wood was activated from the disabled list this morning after sitting out more than two weeks with a blister on the index finger of his right hand.

His return gives the Indians eight relievers for the time being but not for long. Justin Germano, who was called up from Columbus on Friday to help strengthen the overworked relief corps, probably will be returned to Triple-A when outfielder Michael Brantley is eligible to be called up next Saturday.

Brantley was optrioned to Columbus on July 27, and the rules state a player cannot be recalled for 10 days unless he is replacing someone who is injured.

Travis Hafner sat out a third consecutive game with soreness in his right shoulder. He was given treatment today and plans to take batting practice Sunday, but he wasn't sure when he would return to the lineup.

""It's a matter of getting to where I can play several days in a row, not just one or two,'' he said.
