2007 RECRUITING - Linebackers
Football
I profiled the defensive line targets last night. You may have missed it amongst all the track hysteria. Scroll down farther to read that.
Before you do that, read about the linebackers to whom Akron has offered a scholarship, according to Scout.com...
- Marlin Parker, a 6-foot-1, 225 pound linebacker from Warren Harding High School. Click here to see how intimidating this guy looks. He has offers from Akron, Boston College and Indiana. Parker also has interest in Cincinnati, Illinois, Ohio State and Pittsburgh, Scout.com says. He runs a 4.65 in the 40-yard dash and squats 485 pounds. Penn State, Michigan and Virginia Tech are also candidates for Parker.
- Romale Tucker, a 6-3, 210 linebacker from Washington, D.C. I imagine Aaron Alford is recruiting Tucker while he is making rounds in Virginia. Akron and Syracuse are the only schools that Scout.com lists as having offered Tucker a scholarship so far. A pay Web site (to which I don't have access) says Tucker has two others. Other schools of interest include Boston College, Maryland, North Carolina, Penn State and Rutgers. Tennessee, Virginia and Michigan are also possibilities, Rivals.com says. Tucker "has a ways to go to be ready to play at the Division I level," ESPN.com says. He has potential but needs to add a lot of bulk.
- Vince Browne, a 6-5, 245 linebacker from Lisbon, Ohio. This guy is friggin' huge. And he must have some serious skill because he already has plenty of scholarship offers: Akron, Colorado, Ohio, Indiana and Northwestern. More are sure to come. Syracuse and Pitt are interested in Browne, the linebacker's father told Bucknuts.com. That story also said he had a visit to Ohio State coming.
- Landon Givers, a 6-2, 215 linebacker from Hampton, Va. If Givers is physical enough to play the position, he may be the fastest linebacker in the MAC. Scout.com and Rivals.com say he runs a 4.5 in the 40. So far, only Kent State and Akron have offered him a scholarship. Maryland, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Virginia and Virginia Tech are other options for Givers.
Men's soccer
Here is a GoZips.com update on how some Akron players are doing in the United Soccer League's Premier Development League, including Sinisia Ubiparipovic, Evan Bush and Matt Tutich.
If you click the link, you'll see several Zips will play this Saturday at Medina High School.
Men's basketball
As soon as I finish with this football recruiting series, I will begin to profile coach Keith Dambrot's targets. With some preliminary reporting, I have found there are some players to get excited about.
