Here is your class, followed by comments from coach
Adam Bice, OL, Dresden, Ohio -- "Adam Bice is a kid we'll play at center. When you look at all our offensive linemen, these kids don't need to lose any weight. They are athletic kids."
Deryn Bowser, WR, Los Angeles Harbor College, Calif. (Jr.) -- "We believe he is going to have an impact with this team."
Nadir Brown, WR, East Orange, N.J. -- "He had a bit of an injury that slowed him down. Big 6-foot-4 kid who runs very well."
Marvase Byrd, CB, McKeesport, Pa. -- "Explosive talent"
Andrew Colosimo, OL, Upper Arlington, Ohio -- "We're going ot play him at tackle."
Kevin Davis, CB, Cabrillo College, Calif. (Jr.) -- "We're a little bit fortunate in that one. He's a very savvy kid." (Coach Emmanuel McDaniel played with Kevin's father Eric Davis in the NFL."
Will Fleming, S/LB, Akron -- "Will was a tough recruit to get. He tries to separate from his family a little and go off on his own. I think he can compete at the safety, but as he grows, he's going to be a fine linebacker. Anytime you have a coach's son, they're going to have some savvy that most players don't."
Kevin Funches, CB, Coffeyville C.C., Kan. -- "Big enough to play safety"
Troy Gilmore, LB, Huber Heights, Ohio -- "Reminds me of Brion Stokes on tape."
James Harvey, DL, Cochranton, Pa. -- "He's a big man, played a little bit of tight end, linebacker. He's going to be a heck of an athlete on the defensive line."
Hassan Hazzime, DL, Pickerington, Ontario -- "We've been recruiting him for two and a half years. Very athletic. He's in our workouts right now. The future looks bright. He hasn't played the game in a long time, so the nuances aren't there." (Brookhart could not confirm whether Hazzime really runs a 4.5, as stated in the media handout.)
Rhyne Ladrach, TE, Orrville, Ohio -- "An athletic kid who filled out."
Dashan Miller, WR, Bakersfield College -- "Started at UTEP. Transferred to Bakersfield. He's a good football player. He will fit extremely well with out players."
Jordan Miller, QB, New Philadelphia, Ohio -- "Jordan really exploded. He had a really good year. He's got a big-time arm. He showed great control of the offense. He fits it in there and he's accurate. He also has the intangibles."
Joe Pachuta, OL, New Concord, Ohio -- "He's going to get bigger and bigger."
Jared Province, DB, Warren, Ohio -- "Very productive football player."
Josh Richmond, DB, Milford Academy, N.Y. -- "We've had our eyes on him for sometime. Really can go cornerback or safety."
Nate Schuler, LB, New Middletown, Ohio -- "Real big athlete, loves to play the game, loves to strike."
Mitch Straight, OL, Russell, Pa. -- "We got a real steal with him"
Brian Wagner, LB, Dayton -- "Is exactly what you think of with an Ohio linebacker"
Manley Waller, DB, Decatur, Ga. -- "We got to see him while we were at an Ohio State camp. Tremendous speed and acceleration. If genetics play into this at all, he's going to be special." (His mother Gwen Torrence was an Olympic sprinter. His father also sprinted collegiately.)
Other quotes from Brookhart:
Why didn't you get a junior college quarterback? "We like the chemistry on our team right now. We have good faith and trust with the guys we have here. There's a renewed commitment."
"We did extremely good in the state of Ohio."
"We addressed needs where we needed immediate help: secondary and receiver."
On the stadium's help in recruiting: "I don't know if it's that big of a deal until it's actually seen."
Will any offensive lineman play as freshmen? "The offensive line is the most difficult to come in and play. You need that redshirt year. It's a physical game."
Has losing some players (cough, David Harvey and Jermaine Lindsey) made you want to get recruits with higher character? "That's a big piece of it. We're talking about character and we're talking about chemistry. We ask our players when they host the kids if they fit in."
Chris Jacquemain will enter spring as the starter but... "There may be some guys who get beat out. Matt ( Rodgers) has been great. He's been everything you want him to be."
What decommitments did you have in the last couple days? We get "a little bit of that every year. That's part of the game. There's always a surprise. Those things happen. Quite frankly, I really don't need to talk about that."
What is the difference between recruiting juco players from high school players? "The opportunity is one of the things. That's what they're looking for -- to take over where some guys have graduated."
On Ryan Bain: "I don't know what he needed (at Iowa) but we're sure glad he's here. He's an intense player."
On Andrew Johnson: Will not enter the season as the starter. "This is his last chance. He knows he has to work hard and prove he deserves playing time."
On Jeremy Bruce: "A fireplug. Fast, strong, kind of a violent-type runner. He can be very good with the ball in his hands."
