Akron gets trounced at West Virginia
Men's basketball
Old friend Bob Huggins didn't take it easy on the point guard-free Zips.
His Mountaineers forced 20 turnovers as West Virginia beat Akron 77-56. Akron was playing without point guard Alex Abreu, who was suspended for the second-consecutive night.
It was really an ugly game. WVU put their foot on the pedal in the middle of the first half, after Coach Huggins was tagged with a technical foul. Akron missed both free throws, and the Mountaineers went on a 19-2 run.
I think we've found the Zips' weakness -- backup point guard. It was something we identified last spring as a potential soft part of the roster, but normally finding a backup works itself out. Demetrius Treadwell also was suspended for Monday's game.
The Zips play next on Sunday at 2 p.m. at Middle Tennessee State.
