Statement from Bobby Bowden on PSU sanctions and now being winningest coach
By virtue of the wins the NCAA forced Penn State University to vacate from 1998 to 2011 in the wake of the Jerry Sandusky child molestation scandal and subsequent cover-up, former Florida State University coach, Bobby Bowden, Akron Zips coach Terry Bowden’s father, now moves into the top slot.
Zips basketball: Dambrot signed for next decade
The University of Akron and head basketball coach Keith Dambrot have agreed to a contract that could keep the coach at the school for the next decade, a UA spokesman announced Friday.

Former UA hoops player signs with team overseas

Former University of Akron forward Nikola Cvetinovic signed a contract to play basketball for AEK Larnaca, a member of the Cypriot 1st Division, Cypriot Cup, the club announced on Wednesday.
Cvetinovic finished his Akron career tied for 25th on the Zips’ all-time scoring list (1,158) and tied former Zip and teammate Steve McNees for the top mark in program history for games played (141).
In his four season in the Blue and Gold, Cvetinovic earned Mid-American Conference honors in 2011 (second team) and 2012 (third team) while leading UA to 92 wins, tied for fourth-most of any senior class.
AEK Larnaca, located in Larnaca, Cyprus, finished fourth last season in league play, posting a 9-7 mark.
Zips Football: UA receives another commitment
Western Pennsylvania continues to be fertile recruiting ground for coach Terry Bowden and the Akron Zips.
The team received an oral commitment from 6-foot-5, 250 pound TE-DE Michael Kish of Brentwood, Pa., according to Scout.com

MAC football Media Day slated for ESPN3
MAC Media Day coverage on ESPN3 will kick off a record number of exclusive MAC events available live on the network with over 15 games scheduled for the upcoming season. The event will be carried live from 8:30 a.m. – Noon ET and will feature each of the league's head coaches as well as selected student-athletes from the 13 football institutions.
Not only will MAC Football fans around the country be able to watch the live show previewing the upcoming 2012 season, but they will also have the opportunity to interact with the head coaches, student-athletes and league office regarding media day. The MAC will post updates throughout the day using its Twitter and Facebook feeds. The official twitter hashtag for the 2012 MAC Football Media Day and ESPN3 coverage is #MACFBDay. Official tweets will include this hashtag and all media and fans are also asked to use it in their tweets related to the event and when sending questions to their favorite coaches and student-athletes.
Zips Basketball: UA and Dambrot close on new contract
According to sources at the University of Akron, coach Keith Dambrot and the school are close to reaching a deal on a contract extension.
Dambrot's future with the school came under scrutiny after the season's end when Duquense University attempted to lure him away to rescue their hoops program.

Winton Woods PF adds Akron offer following visit
The University of Akron offered Winton Woods senior power forward Kwan Cheatham during his visit to campus on Friday, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.
Cheatham, who is 6 feet 8, averaged 12.5 points, 6.6 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 1.1 steals and 1.7 blocks last season for the Warriors. He was first-team all-Fort Ancient Valley Conference West division. Winton Woods, a suburban Cincinnati school district, was a Division I sectional finalist team last season. C
