Akron vs. Stanford Men's Soccer Game Sold Out
Sunday's NCAA Tournament third-round match between the University of Akron men's soccer team and Stanford is officially sold out, the UA Athletics Department announced Friday morning.
It is the fourth time the No. 1 ranked Zips will be playing in front of a capacity crowd this year as the soccer program has already broken three attendance records this season. Sunday's crowd is expected to challenge the current record of 2,700 fans, set this past Sunday in a 2-0 win against South Florida.
The Zips and Cardinal will kick off at 4 p.m. at Lee Jackson Field.
The Zips (21-0-0) are attempting to become the first team in 35 years to win a national championship with a perfect record. UA has drawn crowds of more than 2,000 fans six times in 11 home games after doing so just once before in its program history entering the year.
With 2,443 fans in attendance to watch the Zips defeat Indiana 1-0 on Sept. 18, UA topped the previous high of 2,319, originally set vs. Ohio State in 2005. That record fell less than two weeks later when 2,473 witnessed a 3-0 victory over the Buckeyes on Sept. 30.
Fans without tickets to Sunday's game can watch a live video feed for free on GoZips.com. A link will be available at kick off.
