Akron vs. Western Michigan - Preview
Men's basketball
Have you caught your breath from last night? Whew. What a game!
Two Zips will be pretty fresh for tonight's semifinal matchup against Western Michigan: Nik Cvetinovic and Zeke Marshall, who fouled out early. Others will need serious adrenaline, particularly Brett McKnight, who gave just about all his body could last night.
You better believe that the Broncos will stampede on the fast break, even more than is their typical fast-paced style, in order to exploit a perceived deficit in Akron energy. The Zips played good transition defense on February 9 against WMU, and repeating that will be key tonight.
The other semifinal will be Kent State vs. Ball State. The Flashes had a relatively easy time defeating Buffalo. Ball State overcame a big lead late to win in overtime against the Bobcats. So that's one less dangerous team for the Zips to face.
I will be liveblogging from Quicken Loans Arena for the 7 p.m. tipoff. As a reminder, if you are at The Q (and have a smartphone), you can access the blog and comment during the game (or timeouts).
Update: Akron is a 2.5-point favorite tonight.
