Junior midfielder Anthony Ampaipitakwong scored a goal 10 minutes into the game to lead the University of Akron men's soccer team to a 1-0 win Sunday night over Tulsa at the Radisson Tulsa Airport Classic.
Zips sophomore forward Teal Bunbury assisted on Ampaipitakwong's goal, which came from about 12 yards away.
The Zips improved to 2-0 and the Golden Hurricane dropped to 1-1-1. UA held an advantage over Tulsa in shots (11-6), shots on goal(6-2) and corner kicks (7-4).
The Zips, ranked No. 1 in the country by Top Drawer Soccer, posted their second shutout of the season with freshman goalkeeper David Meves starting.
UA's defensive unit consisted of freshmen Zarek Valentin and Chad Barson, junior Chris Korb and sophomore Kofi Sarkodie.
Tulsa senior midfielder Joe Salem, a St. Vincent-St. Mary High School graduate, did not record a shot in 41 minutes of play. Salem scored a goal Friday for Tulsa in a 1-1 tie against Seattle.
