In an attempt to cleanse your pallets, I'll forward you to an article about Zips recruit Ronnie Steward.
As Ray Mernagh of Hoopfactor.com first reported, the best point guard in Ohio committed to Akron last week.
For those of you without Rivals.com access, I'll sum up a recent article about him for you. Steward chose Akron because of Keith Dambrot's up-tempo style of play. It also helps that Dambrot's dream job is with the Zips. He's not like Jim Christian, who will take the first plane, train or automobile out of Kent State.
Marshall and Akron dueled for the 5-foot-10 player's commitment. With a 3.8 GPA, academics also factored into the decision for Steward, who plans to study business.
How are the Zips able to reel in such big-time prospects? Dambrot works harder, and more importantly, starts earlier in recruiting, his assistant Jeff Boals told me.
p.s. Kent State wanted Steward, too. Does that help your heartache?
Maybe all the Zips needed was a cupcake to stop their nauseating setbacks.
The women continued their slide in MAC play by losing 3-1 to Western Michigan.
The Zips are now 0-3 in the MAC, but 7-0 in non-conference games.
Unfortunately for coach Catherine Byrne, the former are more important.
Akron will host Northern Illinois Sunday afternoon at 1.
Akron was close in all three games, but lost 3-0 to Toledo Saturday night at Rhodes Arena.
One bright spot for the 7-10 team: Senior Kim Horn recorded her 1,000th career dig.
The Zips will travel to Bowling Green and Miami this week to improve on their 1-3 conference record.
