Jimmy Conyers was a nonfactor for most of his career at Akron. He capped his improbable rise by earning the MAC Defensive Player of the Year.
Coach Keith Dambrot said this about his senior forward:

This is a tribute to Jimmy’s work ethic. He has been our top rebounder all season and has great ability to guard both inside and outside play. I couldn’t be any more proud of him. He is without a doubt our most valuable player and without his efforts this season we would not have enjoyed the successes we have thus far.

Other awards were D.J. Cooper for Freshman of the Year and Anthony Simpson for Sixth Man of the Year. The 12 league coaches voted on these three awards.

After earning a first-round bye, the fourth-seeded Zips will play Eastern Michigan Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Quicken Loans Arena.
Here is the preview from
(I feel badly I haven't covered the team more, because Akron is truly achieving new levels of success under coach Jodi Kest. Someday, a blogger will cover all of the teams. I regret that I don't have the time to put a good effort into covering the Lady Zips, but I'm really rooting them on.)
