Familiar face will coach Ohio U
Men's basketball
A former MAC coach will return to the conference to lead the defending champions.
Jim Christian, who coached at Kent State from 2002 to 2008, will coach Ohio University, leaving Texas Christian, where he was 56-73 since 2009.
Ohio advanced to the Sweet Sixteen last month under John Groce, who then departed for Illinois. The Bobcats return every member of that team, and certainly finding a coach who would experience little or no learning curve was imperative.
Another candidate was Jeff Boals, the Ohio State assistant and OU grad who once served as an assistant at Akron under Keith Dambrot. Boals expressed interest in the job before Ohio chose Christian.
