Gameday news and notes
Football
Cincinnati coach Mike Dantonio says Akron reminds him a little of West Virginia -- a high compliment.
- Greg Moore has been a major factor in the Bearcats' improved running attack.
- The ABJ's David Lee Morgan picks Akron, 27-17.
- Oddsmakers have Cincy as a favorite of between 6 and 6.5 points.
- Danny Sheridan agrees.
- Zips blogger Mike Hixenbaugh also is skeptical.
I believe Akron will cover the spread, but they won't win. UC's defense, special teams and running game will overmatch the Zips.
Can the Zips win? Sure. J.D. Brookhart's team has made a career of comeback wins. After last year's demoralizing Homecoming loss versus Army, Akron traveled to Bowling Green for a 24-14 win.
This season is still young, and a win at Cincinnati would give the Zips two wins against BCS teams. That would do a lot for bowl selection committees. It's a very important game for Akron. But after last week's performance, I wouldn't bet on the Zips.
Akron 14, Cincinnati 17.
