Gameday news and notes
Football
It seems kinda weird to wake up, go to class and know there is a Zips game tonight.
It's more exciting than weird, I suppose.
Anyhow, I couldn't dig up many clips from today's publications...
- Buffalo coach Turner Gill is worried about two things: the Zips' 3-3-5 defense and a possible letdown following the Bulls' win against Kent State.
- MACReportOnline predicts a 33-20 Akron win.
- UofAZips.com published a podcast previewing the Buffalo game.
- You'll have to grab a hard copy of today's Buchtelite for our game preview. Our Web site is suffering from technical difficulties. (Actually, you should pick up a hard copy anyhow for our Men's Basketball Preview Magazine.)
I see the Zips coming out a lot like they did against Miami. They'll play well enough to win comfortably. With only four days' rest, I can't imagine either team being energized enough for a blowout.
Akron should control Buffalo running back James Starks, who is the Bulls' only offensive threat. As long as Luke Getsy can play his usual mediocre game, the Zips can rely on Dennis Kennedy to run over the MAC's worst run defense. Akron has not shown the propensity for massive turnovers this season, and that's the only way Buffalo can win.
Akron 31, Buffalo 16.
Men's basketball
As expected, three pretty good players signed their letters of intent on Wednesday.
Landing Steve Sweich is particularly a coup for Keith Dambrot.
